Think of it like this: AI is the broad idea of making computers smart. Inside that, there's Machine Learning, where we teach by showing them lots of examples, much how a child learns what a 'dog' is by seeing many dogs. Deep Learning is a supercharged version. It uses a structure with many layers, inspired by the human brain, to learn incredibly complex patterns from huge amounts of data. This is the difference between recognizing a face and understanding subtle emotions on a person's face.

Your phone's photo gallery automatically identifies and groups pictures of a specific friend. It has learned from the vast network of photos you've taken of them.
